What is the principle of setting the slitting speed of the slitting machine?

1. Based on material properties
1. Material thickness:
Thinner materials can usually withstand higher slitting speeds. Because thin materials require less cutting force during the slitting process, it is not easy to cause excessive wear on the tool, nor is it easy to generate large stress to cause material deformation. For example, for film materials with a thickness of less than 0.1 mm, the slitting speed can be set relatively fast.
Thicker materials require a lower slitting speed. Thick materials require greater cutting force, and high-speed slitting may cause the tool to overheat, increase wear, and may even fail to completely cut the material. For example, for materials such as rubber sheets with a thickness of more than 5 mm, the slitting speed should be appropriately reduced.
2. Material hardness:
For materials with lower hardness, such as soft paper, plastic film, etc., a higher slitting speed can be set. These materials are easy to cut, and high-speed slitting will not cause too much pressure on the tool.
Materials with higher hardness, such as metal sheets, hard plastics, etc., require lower slitting speeds. High-speed slitting of hard materials will cause rapid wear of the tool, and may generate greater impact force, affecting slitting accuracy and equipment stability.
3. Material viscosity:
Material with viscosity is easy to stick to the cutter during slitting, affecting the slitting effect and speed. For such materials, the slitting speed should be appropriately reduced so that there is enough time to deal with the viscosity problem.
2. Consider the slitting quality requirements
1. Slitting accuracy:
If the slitting accuracy requirements are high, such as requiring neat slitting edges and accurate dimensions, the slitting speed should be reduced. Slitting at low speed can make the cutter cut more stably and reduce the occurrence of errors. For example, in the electronics industry, for some precision film materials, the slitting accuracy requirements are extremely high, and the slitting speed is usually set relatively low.
When the slitting accuracy requirements are not high, the slitting speed can be appropriately increased to improve production efficiency.
2. Surface quality:
For some materials with strict surface quality requirements, such as optical films, mirror materials, etc., high-speed slitting may cause surface scratches, wrinkles and other problems. Therefore, the slitting speed should be adjusted according to the surface characteristics of the material to ensure that the surface quality is not affected.
3. Considering equipment performance and stability
1. Equipment power:
The motor power of the slitting machine determines the maximum power it can provide. If the slitting speed is set too high and exceeds the power tolerance of the equipment, it may cause problems such as motor overload and equipment failure. Therefore, the slitting speed should be set reasonably according to the power of the equipment to ensure that the equipment operates within a safe range.
2. Tool life:
High-speed slitting will accelerate the wear of the tool and reduce the service life of the tool. Therefore, when setting the slitting speed, the material and durability of the tool should be considered. For tools that are easy to wear, the slitting speed should be reduced to extend the tool life.
The slitting speed can be adjusted by regularly checking the wear of the tool to maximize the service life of the tool while ensuring the slitting quality.
3. Equipment stability:
High-speed slitting will cause the equipment to produce greater vibration and noise, affecting the stability of the equipment. If the equipment has poor stability, it may cause problems such as reduced slitting accuracy and material deviation. Therefore, when setting the slitting speed, ensure that the equipment can operate stably.
The equipment can be regularly maintained and maintained, and the various components of the equipment can be adjusted to improve the stability of the equipment, thereby providing conditions for appropriately increasing the slitting speed.
