How to judge whether the lubricant of the slitting machine needs to be replaced?

1. Observe the appearance of the lubricant
1. Color change:
Under normal circumstances, the color of the new lubricant is relatively clear and transparent or presents a specific color. As the use time increases, the lubricant may change color due to impurities, oxidation, etc.
For example, if the lubricating oil changes from the original light yellow to dark brown or even black, it may indicate that the lubricant has been seriously aged or contaminated and needs to be replaced.
2. Reduced transparency:
When impurities such as metal particles, dust, and water are mixed into the lubricant, its transparency will be significantly reduced. You can take a sample of the lubricant and place it in a transparent container to observe its transparency.
If the lubricant becomes turbid, it means that it contains more impurities, which may affect the lubrication effect. At this time, you should consider replacing the lubricant.
3. Precipitation or suspended matter:
Lubricants that have been used for a long time may have precipitation or suspended matter. Precipitation may be caused by the precipitation of additives in the lubricant or the precipitation of metal particles; suspended matter may be tiny particles caused by impurities or wear.
Once obvious precipitation or suspended matter is found in the lubricant, the lubricant should be tested in time to determine whether it needs to be replaced.
2. Check lubricant performance indicators
1. Viscosity change:
Use a viscometer to measure the viscosity of the lubricant. If the viscosity of the lubricant changes significantly compared to the initial value, it may affect its lubrication performance.
For example, the increase in lubricant viscosity may be due to oxidation, polymerization and other reasons, resulting in poor fluidity and increased friction resistance; the decrease in viscosity may be due to dilution, additive failure and other reasons, which make the oil film strength insufficient and unable to effectively protect equipment parts.
2. Increased acid value:
Lubricants will gradually oxidize during use, produce acidic substances, and cause the acid value to increase. The acid value of lubricants can be detected by chemical analysis methods.
When the acid value exceeds a certain limit, it will corrode metal parts, and the lubricant should be replaced at this time. For example, for some lubricants, after the acid value exceeds a certain value, it needs to be replaced in time to prevent corrosion damage to the transmission parts of the slitting machine.
3. Increased moisture content:
Moisture will reduce the performance of the lubricant and accelerate the aging and deterioration of the lubricant. The moisture content in the lubricant can be detected using a moisture meter.
If the moisture content exceeds the allowable range, the lubricating effect of the lubricant will decrease and the equipment may also rust. For example, when the water content in the lubricating oil exceeds a certain proportion, the lubricating oil should be replaced to ensure the normal operation of the slitting machine.
3. Observe the operating status of the equipment
1. Abnormal temperature increase:
If the temperature of a certain part of the slitting machine rises abnormally during operation, it may be caused by the decrease in lubricant performance leading to increased friction.
For example, if the temperature of the tool shaft is significantly higher than the normal level, it may be that the lubricating oil at the bearing has failed and cannot effectively reduce friction heat. At this time, the condition of the lubricant should be checked and the lubricant should be replaced.
2. Increased noise and vibration:
When the lubricant cannot play a lubricating role normally, the friction between the moving parts of the equipment will increase, resulting in increased noise and vibration.
You can feel the changes in noise and vibration by listening to the sound and touching the housing of the equipment. If you find that the noise and vibration of the slitting machine are significantly larger than usual, you should check whether the lubricant needs to be replaced.
3. Deterioration of equipment performance:
If the slitting accuracy of the slitting machine is reduced, the running speed is slowed down, and the energy consumption is increased, it may be that the lubricant problem affects the performance of the equipment.
For example, due to changes in the viscosity of the lubricant or poor lubrication, the efficiency of the transmission parts is reduced, which slows down the running speed of the slitting machine. At this point, the lubricant needs to be inspected and evaluated to determine if it needs to be replaced.
